Dr. ElSherif led and chaired the task force which formulated and delivered "Africa Information and Communication Society" initiative. He volunteered, as part of his social and global responsibility, in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) to lead and develop the first initiative for Africa that aimed at using informatics and ICT for supporting, accelerating and leapfrogging economic and social development in African Countries. Developing "A Smart Africa by Smart Africans " was a vision central to this initiative. The initiative had many programs to support job-creation, education, health, investment, housing, kids, women, environment, etc. This initiative was supported by all African Countries and implemented by most of them. ECA catalytic role with the World Bank and many development agencies and countries were central to the successful implementation in the late 90's and beyond.
